Volunteers of Black River Health award scholarships

The Volunteers of Black River Health (BRH) scholarship committee reviewed information from all applicants and selected this year’s recipients.

A $2,000 health career scholarship was awarded to Emily Herzberg, Melrose. Emily is attending Des Moines University – College of Health Sciences for Doctor of Physical Therapy.

A $1,000 technical college scholarship was awarded to Brianna O’Brien, Black River Falls. Brianna will attend Chippewa Valley Technical College for nursing and diagnostic medical sonography.

The $1,000 Mary Larkin Memorial scholarship was awarded to Haylee Jones, Alma Center. Haylee will attend the University of Minnesota enrolling in nursing.

The volunteers also awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a student who has served as a Volunteen for BRH. This year’s recipient is Reese Cowley, Black River Falls. He will attend University of Wisconsin – Madison.

This year’s scholarship selection committee was comprised of a community health care employee, three Black River Health volunteers with varied scholarship selection backgrounds, and a high school guidance counselor. The applications are scored on the basis of several focused areas such as financial need, grades, references and the quality of their essay.
