Guidance, Comfort, and Care for Families
The No One Dies Alone (NODA) Program is available to all hospice patients who are actively dying. Volunteers provide a comforting presence in the last 24 to 48 hours of life to support the hospice patient and their family.
The period of active dying can sometimes be stressful for family members and caregivers. Our NODA volunteers offer respite care and support during this time, and we provide this service wherever a patient calls home.

NODA Volunteers provide compassionate care
- Their quiet, reassuring presence
- Emotional and non-denominational spiritual support for patients and their families
- A gentle touch
- Playing soft music
- Reading to patients
- Non-clinical services like mouth care and applying lotion to patients’ hands
- Comforting family members after the death of their loved one
In addition to background and reference checks, all volunteers receive training in patient care, confidentiality, infection control and end-of-life awareness.
